I always find conversations like this rather odd...in general, it seems a lot of people will say a band or musician "sucks", then they use an example of an act they find to be good in comparison...yet they use this example of what's "good" like EVERYONE in the world agrees with them. I sometimes wonder - if you can't realize that your opinion of what's GOOD is NOT everyone else's opinion, then who are you to say what's BAD in the first place?

There are also universal truths in the other direction such as the fact that Camper Van Beethoven and The Replacements are gods.
These are not simple opinions, friends, but cold hard facts, and you can't argue with facts, and you can't argue the fact that i'm always right

Durst is a pretty good example of bad. I can't say for sure that even LB fans still dig him, but then I don't know any LB fans. I remember him and some guy did a cover of Wish You Were Here, so damned awful and wrong.
I'm usually pretty adamant about new musicians, and years back I'd rarely try something from a new artist (unless it was recommended). Not all new music that emerges is bad, but then I don't look for it on the radio where the blunt of crap comes from. Good Charlotte?? yeck
CM, Paul is just a minor deity solo... besides, he quit drinking for the solo stuff, so it's no fun anymore

a lot of the new music does blow a lot of ass. I don't listen to the radio anymore unless I'm in the car and the batteries to my MP3 player die. I have to have music on while driving, so I'll subject myself to loads of suicide inducing crap because it feels too weird not to have anything on at all.
now, I must admit that I do like some of the new bands. I own linkin park CDs. and Staind, too (though I must admit I am getting a little bit sick of hearing the singer of staind whine). but they're what I consider to be "fun" music..there are bands that I love, can't live without, must listen to all the time and buy everything that they release...and then there are bands that I pop in when I'm in the mood for something that's fun to listen to, but doesn't hold any particular meaning to me. it's like watching the occasional big blockbuster action movie when you're more of a deep/interesting/meaningful film type person, or eating some candy in place of a good, healthy snack. sometimes you need something that doesn't require a great deal of thought or attention.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Does he just prefer their old stuff? That's what most people claim is the best LB material (but well, I don't see LB and the term "best material" going together too well there). At least you guys aren't so stern about music interests that it causes problems. One friend of mine had an old boyfriend that dumped her because she liked Bush. Sheesh- I mean I can't stand that band either but how superficial is that. And this was in college, not even High school.Originally posted by Tortricidae:
